The final whistle is about to blow on All American.
Inspired by the life of former NFL linebacker Spencer Paysinger, the hit sports drama centered on Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) for its first six seasons. The series followed the talented high school football player from South Los Angeles whose life changes when he’s recruited to play for an elite high school in Beverly Hills.
After season 6, the series underwent a major creative shift, with six original series regulars — including Spencer — departing as full-time cast members. Season 7 then introduced a new generation of students, while longtime characters Jordan Baker (Michael Evans Behling), Layla Keating (Greta Onieogou) and Coop (Bre-Z) stepped into mentor roles.
The eighth and final season picks up six months after the events of season 7, following Jordan, Layla, Coop and the next generation of students over the course of one life-changing week.
“I haven’t read [the script], but I’m hearing it’s beautiful,” Ezra, who will direct the series finale, told PEOPLE in January 2026. “I’m getting calls from everybody saying, ‘I can’t stop crying.’ Apparently, it’s very emotional, very beautiful, and so I’m very excited.”

Season 8 of All American kicks off with a two-episode premiere on July 13 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
After it was announced that All American would conclude with season 8, showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll reflected on the series’ legacy and expressed her gratitude to the cast, crew and fans who helped make it a success.
“How do I condense into just a few words what would be the longest love letter to this show, the fans, the cast, crew, staff, and producers,” she shared in a statement. “My heart is so filled with love and gratitude for everyone who helped bring All American to life and kept it going for its historic run. It is so hard to say goodbye to the thing that you love, but we are so excited that we get to do it in the way we envisioned with this final season.”
