“Relationships are work, and I think people forget about that,” the musician and actress tells PEOPLE

Este Haim is offering relationship advice seven months after her wedding.
On Monday, Aug. 3, the 40-year-old musician and actress told PEOPLE in an exclusive conversation at the New York City premiere of One Night Only what she learned from being part of the rom-com film that she also applies to her own marriage to tech entrepreneur Jonathan Levin.
“Keep pursuing, even if you’re in a relationship,” Haim said. “You should always be dating. You should always be working toward having a better relationship. Relationships are work, and I think people forget about that.”

Haim and Levin wed on Dec. 31, 2025, in Ojai, Calif., after announcing their engagement 10 months earlier on Feb. 13, 2025.
They have not revealed when they first began dating, but Haim told GQ in June 2025 that they met a couple of years prior after she went on a blind date “with a friend of a friend of a friend.”
Haim previously told PEOPLE her advice for soon-to-be brides.
“Have as much fun as possible. Just enjoy it,” she said in June 2026 at the premiere of the Netflix rom-com Voicemails for Isabelle, which she scored with Amanda Yamate. “I was so overwhelmed [at my wedding].”
She continued, “I mean, I enjoyed my wedding so much. But I wish that I had also just stopped for a second and took it in. I didn’t get to do that. Just take it in for a second and just have the best time. Have so much fun. All those people might not be in the same room ever again.”

At the premiere for One Night Only — in which she has a supporting role and composed the music — Haim also shared advice for single people.
“If you’re single, go have fun. You know, we’re on a spinning rock in a vast universe, like, go have a good time, yeah,” she explained.

In the Will Gluck-directed One Night Only, Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner star as “Allie and Owen, two love-starved strangers who crash into each other in an ever-so-slightly fictionalized New York City on the one night of the year when single people are allowed to have sex,” according to the rom-com’s synopsis.
One Night Only — also starring Maya Hawke, Ziwe, Ben Marshall, Molly Ringwald, King Princess, Julia Fox and LeVar Burton — is now in theaters.
