NEED TO KNOW

  • The Spurs defeated the Knicks in Game 3 on Monday, June 8
  • The team engineered a 115-111 victory at Madison Square Garden
  • The victory guarantees at least a fifth game in the series, so the Knicks will have to wait a little longer to see if they can win their first championship since 1973

The Spurs are on the board after a 115-111 victory against the New York Knicks.

The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Knicks in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday, June 8, behind 32 points from Victor Wembanyama.

San Antonio's victory forces the series to at least five games. The Knicks will host Game 4 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, June 10, before the series returns to San Antonio on Saturday, June 13.

Knicks star Jalen Brunson had 32 points in the loss, their first since losing Game 3 of their first-round series against the Atlanta Hawks on April 23, reports the Associated Press.

The Spurs are now attempting to become the first team ever to win an NBA Finals championship after losing the first two games at home.

President Donald Trump's attendance at the game became a major headline before tipoff on Monday as the NBA announced enhanced security measures at the arena for Game 3. He was loudly booed when he was shown on the screen during the National Anthem before tipoff.

All watch parties outside of the Garden were canceled, and attendees were encouraged to arrive hours ahead of time to go through additional TSA-style screening procedures.

Trump is the first sitting president to attend an NBA Finals game.

Additionally, a strict no-bag policy was in effect and fans were encouraged to "make every effort to limit personal items to an absolute minimum," per a release from the NBA.

The Spurs' De'Aaron Fox addressed the president's attendance ahead of Game 3, telling reporters, "I think the president being here just makes it inconvenient for everybody else. …We're getting screened like it's TSA. It's a little inconvenient for the people that's got to play, but it is what it is."
