Edwards and Malik split in 2015 after a two-year engagement

Perrie Edwards is looking back on her relationship with Zayn Malik.
The English singer, 32, revealed that there was "overlap" at the end of her engagement with Malik, 33, and his relationship with Gigi Hadid on an episode of the Great Company with Jamie Laing podcast that came out on Wednesday, June 10.
"When you go through heartbreak, it is hellish. You can't eat. You can't sleep. You feel horrendous. You feel abandoned and you don't feel good enough, and you feel like you've been left for something better," Edwards said of her breakup with the One Direction alum.

She continued to say that she "felt like the world was then looking at me, laughing at me."
Edwards said she felt Malik had a less difficult time with the breakup because there was "a bit of an overlap" with his next relationship.
"When you're moving on with somebody else, you always get on better. When you're the one left behind, that's when it's hard. Because it's like, ‘Oh s—, they've left me for someone more beautiful. Someone better than me,' " she said.
"Then you have a song that they've written about you, but then someone else is in the video. It was one thing after the other after the other," the Little Mix star remembered, referring to Malik's song "PILLOWTALK."

Edwards, who is now engaged to soccer player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, said the experience "made me realize that was very unhealthy."
"You can say it was young puppy love or whatever, and you're like whisked away with it. And I think now that I've experienced what healthy love is, it's so nice. It doesn't make you feel sick to your stomach all the time," she said.

Edwards and Malik met on The X Factor UK in 2011. After a few years of dating, he proposed to her in August 2013.
Following a two-year engagement, the two split in August 2015.
Malik and Hadid, 31, sparked romance rumors in late 2015 and went public with their relationship that December. The two dated on-and-off for several years and share daughter Khai, 5½.
PEOPLE confirmed in October 2021 that Malik and Hadid had split.
In 2016, Edwards opened up about her breakup from Malik in Little Mix's One World book and claimed he ended their engagement via text message.
