A shooting at a food festival near Seattle’s Space Needle has left three people dead and multiple others injured.
In a press conference shared by FOX 13 Seattle, Seattle Police Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis said gunshots were heard at 6:01 p.m. at the annual Bite of Seattle event on Sunday, July 26, and once officers arrived at the scene, they found a total of seven victims with gunshot wounds.
Davis said officers immediately CPR and first aid and four victims were transported by the Seattle Fire Department to Harborview Medical Center. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, while one victim died at Harborview.
Another victim later showed up at the University of Washington Medical Center with a gunshot wound, Davis added, while also confirming that one of those who was injured is a toddler.
“This is a tragedy, I’m really sorry this happened,” Davis said. “The Bite of Seattle is a really positive event and we haven’t had issues in recent years. Thankfully, we had officers at the scene who were brave, went to those shots and prevented more victims from being injured.”
Two people were believed to be shooting at each other, Davis said.
Officers addressed one shooter and that person was taken into custody, while another that they believe is involved fled the scene, and an active search is underway for them.
“There is no outstanding threat to the community,” Davis added. Two guns have been recovered.
In a post on X earlier in the evening, the Seattle Police Department shared, “Police are investigating a shooting. Multiple shooting victims. Shots fired at the Seattle Center. More information to come. Please avoid the area.”
