While online shopping has become second nature to me, there are still times when I want to see how things look in person before making a purchase.
Since the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is running right now, i.e., the biggest shopping event of the year, I decided now’s the best time to do it. After all, with over 118,000 items on sale online, surely the store would be decked out with deals, too, right?
Right. Free People, Madewell, Vince Camuto, and so many other must-see brands were discounted everywhere I turned. So, I did what any logical person would do and tried them all on — plus took pictures so you can see them, too.

Free People Frankie Cable Cotton Sweater

$98 $66 at Nordstrom
Jennifer Lopez, Hilary Duff, and more stars convinced me to try cable-knit sweaters last year, but I didn’t act soon enough. So when I saw this sweater included in the savings, I knew I had to try it on — and once I did, I realized they were on to something.
The cotton fabric felt so soft that I didn’t want to take it off. Plus, while I really liked how it looked with my dress pants, I could just as easily see myself wearing it with a pair of leggings, too.
Madewell Lace Insert Ruffled Pintuck Long-Sleeve Top

$118 $80 at Nordstrom
I tried on this top after my coworker Rylee Johnston added it to her wish list. (I take my colleagues’ recommendations very seriously!) I was worried it would look too puffy on my larger chest, but it actually fit well without making me look bulky. The attention to detail — the tiny pintucks, flouncy ruffles, and delicate trim — was also top-notch.
Pistola Kacey Cuffed High-Waist Boyfriend Jeans

$188 $126 at Nordstrom
Okay, but the jeans I was wearing (both above and below)? They were this pair from Pistola. When I first picked them up, I didn’t even notice the seam details, but they quickly became my favorite part. Though the pants were loose and relaxed, the seams made them look like they actually tapered inwards, creating a slimming effect.
Pistola Alba Cotton T-Shirt

$98 $65 at Nordstrom
This T-shirt felt thick and substantial, which ultimately made it look ten times nicer on my body. It fit a little more snug than I thought it would, but come layering season, I know that will come in clutch.
Vince Camuto Bomber Jacket

$149 $100 at Nordstrom
I’m so sad I didn’t take this bomber jacket home with me. The olive color was stunning, and the high neckline made me feel like one of those cool fashion girls who everyone aspires to be. It was the ideal weight for fall, too — not too hot and not too cold.
Vince Camuto High-Waist Longline Shorts

$99 $65 at Nordstrom
Because I can’t resist a matching set, I had to try on the jacket’s coordinating shorts. They were very breezy — so much so that I’d even wear them now instead of waiting for fall — and somehow made my tall frame look even lengthier.

Free People We the Free Palmer Cuffed Baggy Jeans

$128 $80 at Nordstrom
I’m not a huge denim girl, but these jeans stuck out to me immediately. Not only did they feel as soft as a blanket, but the pocket placement made my hips look less wide, which I was definitely digging.
Open Edit Print Long-Sleeve Drape Back Dress

$100 $66 at Nordstrom
When I first saw this dress hanging on the rack, I assumed it was from Réalisation Par — I mean, it looks just like it. A glance at the tag later, and I realized it was actually from Open Edit (making it way less expensive). The quality was also surprisingly nice, and it hugged my curves without feeling too clingy.
Levi’s ‘90s Denim Trucker Jacket

$110 $73 at Nordstrom
I couldn’t find a pair of Levi’s jeans in my size (womp, womp), but I did find this jacket to make me feel better. It was slouchy, but not too baggy, and added a more casual tone to the zebra dress outfit. TL;DR: If you see me wearing jean jackets this summer, now you know why.
Zella Ultra-Luxe Volume Zip Hoodie

$99 $66 at Nordstrom
I love a good hoodie, but sometimes I just feel like one big blob when I’m wearing it. (Anyone else?!) To my surprise, I learned that this one had slits on the sides to give it a little more shape. It was also super warm and cozy, and I definitely contemplated buying it for the plane ride on my upcoming trip.
I tried it on with some Vuori pants that I’m no longer seeing online, but luckily, this on-sale pair looks similar.
Halogen Faux Suede Jacket

$139 $93 at Nordstrom
While I don’t work in an office, I wanted to make sure I tried on something work-appropriate for those who do. This jacket looked extremely luxe on the hanger but even better on my body. It felt just like expensive suede and also had a matching skirt, should you want to wear it as a set.
Madewell Oversized Pullover Sweater

$148 $100 at Nordstrom
This sweater was thin but warm, making it a solid candidate for those who constantly fluctuate between hot and cold. The color was also absolutely stunning, and if you know me, you know I rarely use the “S” word.
Caslon Pull-On Chambray Ankle Barrel-Leg Pants

$90 $60 at Nordstrom
I tried on a lot of things, but the jeans pictured above were my favorite. The cut was way more flattering than I anticipated, and the stretchy waistband made them feel more like sweatpants than jeans. (I even sized down and still felt so comfortable.)
Bernardo Short Bouclé Coat

$160 $100 at Nordstrom
I picked up this jacket on a whim, and I’m really happy I did. The giant buttons made it look incredibly elegant, like something you’d see on the streets of Paris. While I don’t have use for thick coats anymore (*cries in Arizona*), if I did, I’d definitely wear this instead of a puffer.
The Outset Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum Duo

$92 $62 at Nordstrom
When Scarlett Johansson says a product is the “backbone” of her skincare routine, you pay attention. You also pay attention when you see two of those products in a kit that’s going for $30 less than what it’s worth.
Barefoot Dreams CozyChic Zebra Throw Blanket

$198 $130 at Nordstrom
I’ve been in love with Barefoot Dreams blankets for years now, so I’ll never pass up the opportunity to shout them out. They’re so soft and luxurious that I wouldn’t mind being cold for the rest of my life if it meant that I got to stay forever bundled up in one.
