A child has died and several others have been injured in a car crash in Australia.
At around 4 p.m. local time on Tuesday, Sept. 8, emergency services responded to reports of a “single-vehicle fatal rollover” near the Nerowie and Parwan-Exford roads intersection in Parwan, 28 miles west of Melbourne, Victoria Police said in a statement.
The police said the crash occurred after the vehicle left the rural Nerowie road near a T-intersection before it rolled and sustained substantial damage, 7News reported.
One child was pronounced dead at the scene. Six other children were injured in the crash.
“Despite CPR being performed, one school-aged child died at the scene,” said Victoria Police. “A second child was airlifted with critical injuries. Five more children were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.”
“One woman was taken to hospital for observation,” the police added.
The critically injured child was sent to the Royal Children’s Hospital, along with three other children, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported.
The remaining injured children were sent to Western Hospital Sunshine and the woman was treated at Royal Melbourne Hospital, per the outlet. The victims’ identities have not been publicly released at this time.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson told ABC, “Two specialist Air Ambulance Victoria helicopter crews, two Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance paramedic crews and seven Advanced Life Support paramedic crews assessed eight people at the scene.”
Victoria Police said they are investigating the cause of the crash.
