When one door closes, another one opens, and that might be the case for Jensen Ackles‘ Soldier Boy (a.k.a Ben) from The Boys. The season 5 finale features all the blood and violence that the show is known for, but viewers were left wondering what exactly happens to Homelander‘s biological father after the final episode.

Hollywood Life has the recap of The Boys‘ season 5 finale and Soldier Boy’s fate below. (Warning: spoilers from The Boys’ finale are ahead)

Does Soldier Boy Die in The Boys Season 5 Finale?

No. In fact, Soldier Boy doesn’t even appear in The Boys finale episode. He’s missing from the chaotic events, including the White House battle, which leaves Homelander crying out in pain and dying a bloody, crowbar-bludgeoned death.

What Happens to Soldier Boy in The Boys Finale? His Ending Explained

Since Soldier Boy does not appear in season 5, episode 8, fans are left to revert to The Boys‘ penultimate episode, in which the character has had quite enough of Homelander and leaves.

But Homelander refuses to let his biological father walk out of his life after promising him all the wealth and glory in his dictatorship. So, Homelander strangles Soldier Boy to the point of unconsciousness, then puts him back on the ice, leaving his fate unknown.

So, Soldier Boy’s whereabouts in the season 5 finale are never explicitly confirmed.

Will Soldier Boy Be in Vought Rising?

Yes. Ackles is expected to reprise his role as Soldier Boy in the spinoff series Vought Rising, which premieres sometime in 2027. An exact release date has yet to be determined, but the cast has already shot the first season of the new show.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ackles said it felt “bittersweet” to conclude The Boys while still looking forward to expanding the Vought Cinematic Universe.

“It’s like saying ‘goodbye’ to The Boys, but I’m also doing the prequel to it, so it’s like my journey hasn’t necessarily come to an end,” the Supernatural alum said. “And I’m so thankful for being able to be a part of this and being able to work with these amazing people, and then continuing to grow the universe.”

When asked about Vought Rising, Ackles said it will “definitely feel like a different show” once fans get to watch it, but it still has the “foundation and the heart of what made The Boys.”
