A Philadelphia grandmother fatally shot her teen granddaughter and her sister before turning the weapon on herself this week.
Angelina Picano, 18, and Denise Grottini, 55, were shot by 67-year-old Janice Picano before she turned the gun on herself, according to WPVI, NBC10 Philadelphia and FOX29, which cited information from investigators.
Officers found the three women suffering from gunshot wounds to the head after responding to a report of a person with a gun at a South 10th Street residence on the afternoon of June 22, the outlets reported.
All three women were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after first responders arrived, according to the outlets.
WPVI reported that Angelina Picano was Janice Picano’s granddaughter, while Grottini was the suspect’s sister. All three women lived in the home.
Angelina Picano was a student at Furness High School, according to a statement from the School District of Philadelphia.
“Death is rarely something that is easy to accept, especially when it involves a young person, particularly during these times as our city grapples with heightened gun violence,” the school said in a statement.
The district said counselors would be available at the school on Wednesday and Thursday.
A motive has not been publicly disclosed. The investigation remains ongoing.
