They’re Tik-ed!
For some reason, Tik Tok users just cannot get enough of watching iPhone footage of random people sweat while they do pricey workout class the Tracey Anderson Method.
Apparently self-filmed Tracey Anderson videos have become such a reliable source of likes on the social media platform that every would-be influencer in town is booking a spot in the classes just to snag a few follows.
The problem is that classes are now more movie studio than fitness studio, with several people in each session propping up their phone to capture the precious clips.
There have been “ongoing classroom disruptions,” caused by people taking “clout-driven content,” a peeved, but toned, source tells us.
We hear that it’s been so disruptive that the studio has had to ban nonmembers (that is, folks who pay for a single class) from bringing their phones in the room.
Members, who pay $900 a month, and instructors can, of course, continue to film the workout, which has been a hit with clients like Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Michelle Obama, Victoria Beckham, Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz.
A memo went out to staff this week from Anderson’s top exec Steven Beltrani, saying “visitors must keep their phones inside the lockers during class time. . . . This policy will be added to class reservation confirmations and strictly enforced across all studio operations and front desk associate teams.”
He added, “Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to honor the integrity of the studio experience and the work happening within our community.”
Meanwhile, there was panic at the Tribeca studio earlier this week when one of the classrooms had to be closed when a pipe burst.
We’re told a temporary space is being used next door and it should be fixed by May 27 or sooner.
A source tells us that there will be an upcoming major renovation at the downtown studio this summer.
