A 10-year-old boy is accused of stabbing a Dollar Tree employee multiple times after allegedly trying to rob the Pennsylvania store at knifepoint, police said.
Officers responded to the Dollar Tree on Paxton Street in Swatara Township, near Harrisburg, at about 5:06 p.m. on Monday, June 29, after receiving a report of a robbery involving a knife, according to a Swatara Township Police Department press release.
When officers arrived, they found the boy being detained by store employees. One employee had been injured during the incident, police said.
Witnesses told investigators the boy entered the store while brandishing a fixed-blade knife, threatened an employee and demanded money, according to the release.
According to the release, other employees came to the employee's defense and managed to subdue the boy until officers arrived. During the struggle, one of the employees was stabbed multiple times and required medical treatment, police said.
Police did not identify the injured employee or disclose the extent of the employee's injuries.
The boy was charged with robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possessing an instrument of crime, according to police. He is being held at a secure juvenile detention facility pending court proceedings.
Authorities have not released additional information about what may have led to the alleged robbery attempt.
