He may be one of the hottest movie stars on the planet, but not everybody wants to hang out with Tom Holland!
During a Monday, July 13 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Holland revealed that Norwegian soccer star Erling Haaland ignored his DM request to “hang out,” calling the experience “humbling.”
Fallon saw a post on X that claimed The Odyssey star, 30, sent 25-year-old Haaland a direct message, which the athlete didn’t respond to, and asked Holland if it was true.
“Erling Haaland had no idea who Tom Holland was when he DM’d him and asked to hang out,” Fallon said, quoting the X post. “He doesn’t watch movies, so he thought he was a random person.’ Now, tell us the truth: did you DM Erling Haaland?” he questioned the actor.

Holland sheepishly responded: “Yes. Yes, and I tell you what, that is, that is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors. You know, you’ll be like, ‘I’ll text him, I’ll take him to dinner,’ not even a response, not an excuse, not ‘I’m busy tonight, I’m playing football,’ nada.”
Soccer fan Holland explained on the show that he saw Haaland at the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix at the start of June and felt inspired to contact him.
“I was watching Lewis [Hamilton] race, and I saw him,” Holland explained. “He was [in] like a hospitality suite across from me, and I just thought I’d shoot my shot. Send him a text.”
Holland then quipped about his rejection, “I never imagined I would talk about it on live television, but here we are.”
Fallon moved on to ask Holland whether he would still have dinner with Haaland, to which the actor responded: “I don’t think he would have dinner with me after the other day,” apparently referencing the England-Norway World Cup game.
England won 2-1 during the match at Miami Stadium on Saturday, July 11, and progressed to the semifinals, knocking Norway out of the competition.
Fallon replied: “Oh really? Yeah, he’s probably hurting a little bit,” to which Holland joked: “A little bit, bless him.”

Haaland, who plays soccer for Manchester City, said he wanted England to “do well” following Saturday’s defeat as the team moves on to face Argentina.
“I’ve been supporting; I think I got an England jersey before I got a Norway jersey when I was young, so err, of course I want England to do well because it’s a nice country and it’s a nice t-shirt,” he said in a clip posted by ESPN UK on Facebook.
Elsewhere in the interview with Fallon, Holland said that England getting to the semifinals of the World Cup was a “huge deal.”
“It feels like something is in the air right now,” Holland added. “Sometimes in life, I just get a feeling, and I have that feeling right now, Jimmy,” he said hinting at the possibility of England winning the World Cup.
