Toddler Who Fell into Pond Rescued by Dad of 2 on a Walk With His Family

Two nurses in the park for a wedding also rushed to provide aid

Several people leapt to action to help save the life of a 3-year-old boy who was discovered struggling in a pond in Wales. 

South Wales Police confirmed they responded to a call about a child who “entered a body of water and got into difficulty” at Bryngarw Country Park in Bridgend on Saturday, July 4, around 2:40 p.m. local time in a statement shared with PEOPLE.

The statement noted that a passerby administered CPR before first responders arrived. The boy was taken to a hospital where he was in stable condition. 

Stefan Johnson, one of the good Samaritans, told the BBC that he, his partner Sophie, and their two children were walking in the park when they spotted the toddler. He initially thought the boy was swimming until he realized something was wrong and rushed to help.

“I was in the zone. It’s like I had to stay calm, to focus,” Johnson recalled, saying that he started performing CPR. 

Sophie’s cries for help caught the attention of two nurses, Emma Brown and Kelsey Pirie, who were about to attend a wedding.

They told the outlet that they took over CPR but were concerned as the boy was “unresponsive, with no signs of life at all.” He was revived by the time paramedics arrived at the scene.

“This is going to stay with us forever but at least it had a positive outcome,” Brown, who along with Pirie witnessed their friend’s wedding later that afternoon, told the BBC.

An investigation into the incident is currently ongoing, South Wales Police told PEOPLE.
