Taylor Swift’s love story with her husband, Travis Kelce, is indeed “so high school!”
Sources tell PEOPLE the pop superstar, 36, paid tribute to the kind of man the Kansas City Chiefs star, also 36, was as a teen during their moving wedding vows.
“Taylor talked about how Travis was the guy in high school who, even though he was the star athlete, would go sit with the less-popular kids who were being bullied at lunchtime. And Taylor talked about how she wished she knew someone like that when she was in high school. It was so special,” says one source.
Adds another insider: “Travis was very emotional during the vows.”
Reps for Swift and Kelce have not commented to PEOPLE.
Two wedding guests who spoke to NBC News shared that Swift and Kelce each personally wrote their own vows, and the Grammy winner is said to have sung parts of hers.

“You would think the bride would be the one crying more, but it was actually Travis that was more emotional,” one guest told the outlet.
Despite the estimated 1,000 guests in attendance, PEOPLE has learned that the couple made time to talk to as many attendees as possible, walking around the venue and thanking those who came to celebrate their big day.
Sources confirm the couple opted not to have a seated dinner but offered attendees a variety of Italian dishes, sushi and fancy fare, including caviar served on chicken nuggets.

Food trucks were also seen arriving at Madison Square Garden on their wedding day, including popular N.Y. pizza hotspot Mama’s Too and Philly cheesesteak offering Danny & Coop’s, created by Bradley Cooper and restaurateur Danny DiGiampietro.
Swift and Travis tied the knot in front of loved ones at Madison Square Garden on Friday, July 3 in front of a star-studded crowd, including Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, Jennifer Lopez and many more.
“The bride and groom’s wedding ceremony looks have been created by Christian Dior Haute Couture. They are designed by Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of Dior Women’s, Men’s and Haute Couture Collections, in close collaboration with the Bride and Groom. This is the designer’s first couture wedding dress for a world-renowned celebrity,” her rep confirmed in a statement. “Their shoes were custom made by Christian Louboutin and the bride wore Cartier jewelry. Taylor & Travis did not have bridesmaids or groomsmen. Instead, her brother Austin Swift served as Taylor’s Man of Honor and Jason Kelce was Travis’ Best Man. The ceremony joined both families together and was officiated by friend Adam Sandler.”
