Authorities in Indiana are investigating a shooting over the weekend that left a 38-year-old woman dead and several others injured.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed to PEOPLE that the victim was fatally shot in an Indianapolis, Ind. residence on Sunday, May 3.
The statement did not name the victim, but she was identified in online tributes and several local outlets which cited the coroner's office as 38-year-old Brittany Marie Members. The coroner was unavailable when PEOPLE reached out on Tuesday.
Officers responding to the location around 1 a.m. on Sunday found the woman with gunshot wound(s), the IMPD said in their statement to PEOPLE. She died after being taken to the hospital.
Two others were injured, police learned, and transported themselves to the hospital. The IMPD previously told WTHR that a third person was injured trying to flee the property, but officials did not immediately confirm this to PEOPLE.
The shooting occurred during a prom party at the house, which is a short-term rental property, according to police, per WTHR, and a neighbor who spoke with FOX 59.
The prom party was for Members' daughter, FOX 59 reported.
A neighbor told WTHR that they were awoken by gunshots and he estimated "probably 60+ shots" had been fired; police declined to confirm this information, citing the pending investigation.
"We could almost feel the vibration," Jack Anderson told the outlet. "It was absolute chaos."
“It was pure pandemonium … I would have likened it to some type of war movie,” another neighbor, Brandi Mitchell, told FOX 59, adding that she woke up to a bullet hole in the front window of her residence.
