Nick Robinson is sharing his memories of the late Rob Reiner, more than six months after the beloved Hollywood director and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were killed in December 2025.
Robinson, 31, caught up with PEOPLE at the premiere of his new Netflix rom-com Voicemails for Isabelle in Los Angeles on Tuesday, June 16. Over a decade ago, he starred in Reiner's 2015 movie Being Charlie, which was co-written by the filmmaker's son Nick, now 32, who is currently facing two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents' deaths. He has pleaded not guilty.
"His decency and kindness," Robinson says, when asked what memories he has of Rob that he carries with him, more than 10 years after Being Charlie's release. "And his . . . his accessibility, too. He just was so welcoming and warm to me as a young actor. There was no kind of ego or hubris, and the thing that struck me was his humor and his decency, and also his passion. He just had so much passion for life, causes and art."
"Just really remarkable," he adds. "Remarkable man."

Rob, of course, was a celebrated and Oscar-nominated filmmaker and actor who starred in All in the Family in the 1970s. He embarked on a directing career that included 1980s and '90s classics like This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally and A Few Good Men, among dozens of other movies.
His 2015 movie Being Charlie starred Robinson as its title character, Charlie, a young man who struggles with drug addiction and his relationship with his parents, as his father David (Cary Elwes) campaigns for political office. Nick co-wrote the movie with Matt Elisofon, whom The New York Times identified in a 2025 article as a friend Nick met in rehab.
While promoting Being Charlie, Rob and his son openly discussed how the story was inspired by Nick's "dark years" struggling with addiction since he was a teen. In interviews around the movie's premiere, Rob spoke about feeling "desperate" to help his son during that time period.
In a September 2025 interview with NPR, Rob mentioned that Nick was "great" and "hasn't been doing drugs for over six years." The late star added of his son, "He's in a really good place."

Rob and his wife Michele also shared older son Jake Reiner and younger daughter Romy Reiner. Nick, who is currently awaiting trial, recently filed a probate petition to access a $1.5 million trust fund established by his parents in order to fund his legal defense.
In that petition, he alleged Romy, 28, and Jake, 35, backed out of an agreement they had previously made to fund his defense.
