NEED TO KNOW

  • Milly Alcock admitted that she felt nervous over her career prospects after she broke out in HBO’s House of the Dragon
  • The actress stars in DC Studios’ upcoming Superman spinoff Supergirl, in theaters June 26
  • Alcock also recently starred in the Netflix series Sirens

Milly Alcock made a leap of faith from one franchise to another when she landed her role in Supergirl.

Alcock, 25, reflected on finding fame with her lead role in the first season of HBO's House of the Dragon — and transitioning out of the series after just a handful of episodes — in a newly published interview with Vanity Fair on Tuesday, March 31.

“I was so s— scared that my life was over at 22,” she told the outlet. “And, of course, it wasn’t," she added, noting that she "kind of bullied myself into" taking on the lead part in Supergirl.

Alcock made her onscreen acting debut in the mid-2010s, but she broke out in popular culture when she portrayed a young version of Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon in 2022. Given that the show spans a significant number of years, Alcock only appeared in five episodes of the series' first season and reprised the part for two episodes in 2024's second season, leaving her in need of more work even as the series continued.

In 2025, she starred in the series Sirens and made her first appearance in the DC Universe at the end of Superman, which established her and David Corenswet's Clark Kent as big-screen cousins.

The new Supergirl movie, the second in James Gunn's DC Universe, sees Alcock's character "reluctantly join forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice," per an official synopsis for the new movie.

Alcock also commented on the notion that she will face "inevitable backlash" for taking a leading role in a superhero movie as a woman in the film industry while speaking with Vanity Fair.

“[Starring in the Game of Thrones spinoff] definitely made me aware that simply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on," she said. "We have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women’s bodies. I can’t really stop them. I can only be myself.”

After the Supergirl movie hits theatres on June 26, the DC Universe will continue with Clayface, which stars Tom Rhys Harries and will release Sept. 11. After that, a sequel to Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, is scheduled to release July 9, 2027. It's unclear whether Alcock will appear in either of those movies, though her character appears primed to stick around her cousin Superman's life for the long haul.

After Supergirl releases, Alcock herself will next appear alongside Sofía Vergara and Kate McKinnon in the comedy Thumb and costar with Toni Collette in Hot Mother.

“I want to work with a bunch of really cool young women," she told Vanity Fair, shouting out comedian and actress Rachel Sennott as "f—ing fab" in particular.

Supergirl is in theaters June 26.
