At fashion's biggest night, Isha Ambani's dazzling look was all about family.
The Indian billionaire heir, 34, shimmered at the 2026 Met Gala on Monday, May 4, in a gold sari and a sculptural cape that acted as a halo of sorts. Per Vogue India, the look was a custom-made Gaurav Gupta sari “woven with pure gold threads by master artisans at Swadesh.”
For the event — with dress code "Fashion Is Art," a reflection of the Met's spring 2026 exhibition titled "Costume Art" — the most show-stopping element of Isha's look was a whole host of jewels hand-sewn into the bodice, which were taken right from her own jewelry closet, as well as her mother Nita Ambani's collection.
More than 1,200 hours and the craftsmanship of 25 artisans went into creating the custom sari, with the bulk of the work required in the bodice area, according to Vogue India. More than 200 mine-cut diamonds were “hand-sewn across the bodice using stones from Nita Ambani's private collection,” per the outlet.

“It's a hand-woven sari, and the blouse is full of my mother's jewelry,” Isha said of her look, which was styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, during Vogue's livestream, adding that the accessories incorporated into the look are all “different sentimental pieces.”
The sentimental pieces, she said, include a “gift that I got when my kids were born,” along with “other things that are sentimental.”
“And then this cape is by Gaurav Gupta,” Isha continued, “and it's supposed to be like a sculptural element to the sari.”
“It's like 20 years old,” she added. “I think when we thought about it, and, you know, fashion is art, we were like, ‘Oh, like … for me as an Indian, it was like the ultimate, like, symbol of art form.' "

Isha's look also included another unique element: a fruit. Along with accessorizing with a custom diamond choker by Lorraine Schwartz, a 50-carat emerald and her own family heirloom jewels, the billionaire heir also carried a glittery mesh handbag containing what appeared to be a mango.
But there was little risk of the mango dripping on The Met steps, Isha revealed to Vogue, as it is actually a sculpture by Indian artist Subodh Gupta.

Isha wore her sentimental, shimmering look at the Met Gala shortly after her mother, Nita, 62, made headlines for her accessorizing.
The wife of Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani stepped out at the TIME100 Gala last month while wearing an extremely rare gemstone.
Nita made an impression on the red carpet in a massive diamond with connections to the Nizami lineage, according to a press release. The show-stopping stone was a 101-carat pink and brown old mine rose-cut pear diamond set in six rows of natural Basra pearls, which are also extremely uncommon.
