Madison Marilla is sharing new details about her engagement alongside her father, Brennan Marilla.
During a joint interview with Tay Lautner on The Squeeze podcast released on Wednesday, April 22, the father-daughter duo opened up about Madison's engagement, including the special moment her fiancé, Tyler White, asked for her parents' blessing to propose.
The Love on the Spectrum costars got engaged at the Sunken Gardens in Florida on July 15, 2025 — the first anniversary of their first date — while filming season 4 of the Netflix hit docuseries. Madison shared on the podcast that she "didn't know what to expect," only that Tyler had a surprise for her. After Tyler's "Christmas in July" themed proposal, Madison was in for another surprise when she realized that their parents heard the entire thing from afar.

"I had no idea our families were hiding in the bushes this whole time," Madison said with Brennan adding, "We heard it happen. I didn't see it happen until yesterday when I watched the show. It was beautiful. I mean, it was very emotional to watch. So proud of them. We kind of popped out of the bushes afterward and gave them a big hug. We were so proud of them."
Brennan and Madison detailed the "really sweet moment" Tyler asked for approval to pop the question, a scene that was cut from the show.
"Tyler was really, really sweet. We had a great conversation," Brennan said before joking, "Maybe it'll make the outtakes one day."
Madison remembers the exact moment Tyler pulled her parents aside for a private conversation during dinner at his house one day. At the time, she "had no idea" what they needed to speak in secret about "for, like, over an hour," but now looking back said it was clear he was "asking them for their blessing."
"He asked both my mom and my dad," Madison said. "So, he's a great Christian Southern gentleman, which is one thing I love about him."

Brennan revealed that Tyler's father's responsibility was to distract Madison.
"It was really it was really sweet. On this season of the show, there was a dinner, kind of like a meet and greet with Tyler's parents. We'd met them before. We had seen them a bunch of times, but this was the first time we'd kinda actually gone to their home and sat down with them. And we were talking about our children and how cool it was they'd gotten together and found each other. We had a nice interaction. It was a lot of fun. And then as Jenny and I are leaving, Madison's mother, my wife, Jenny, as we're leaving their house, Tyler kind of grabs us as we're walking out the door and Tyler's father, Tim, had Madison distracted."
Madison chimed in, "Tim had me go into the man cave and he kept me in the man cave. Tim tricked me into Tyler talking to my parents about their upcoming Alaska trip. He tricked me this whole time."
Brennan predicted what Tyler was going to ask him.
"Tyler was really sweet and he was very gentle. He's a very gentle person. I kind of had the vibe of what was coming. I could tell this time he wasn't going to ask if he could take her to Universal Studios. I knew this time it was going to be the real question," Brennan said. "He asked if he could marry Madison. Jenny and I had a nice conversation with him about, 'Why do you wanna marry her? Do you feel like you're ready? Do you feel like the two of you are ready for marriage? You still have a lot of personal growth to do. You're still learning how to have a relationship.' "

Brennan also made sure Tyler knew that Madison "doesn't feel like she's gonna be ready to have children probably maybe ever."
After Brennan and Tyler discussed all of the "bigger issues" that come with marriage, Brennan and Jenny gave Tyler the "green light."
"We told him that we thought that he was a great fit for her, and that we were blessed to have him in our life, and for Madison to find him," Brennan said.
The bride-to-be noted the private conversation wasn't the only sign that Tyler was going to propose. She said, "I was so surprised, but looking back that night, he kind of was giving subtle clues throughout the season." Plus, they had previously spoken about potentially getting engaged.

While recently chatting with PEOPLE, Madison and Tyler shared a wedding planning update.
“We're gonna wait until the timing is right,” Madison explained in an exclusive interview published on April 4, as her fiancé added, “Yes. We're definitely waiting on timing and [to] get through the speed bumps and all that good stuff and get to a point where I can provide for her. And also, we've had to keep it secret because of television, and it kinda makes it hard when you have to keep it a secret.”
