Lenny Kravitz is opening up about his unusual gym wardrobe.
The 62-year-old musician has been known to hit the gym in his signature leather pants, and in the new Men’s Health Music + Muscle Issue, published on Tuesday, July 14, he explained the reasoning behind the ritual.
“I perform onstage in leather, denim, whatever, so those are the pants I wear to train,” he said. “It also means I can fit in a workout anytime, anywhere.”
Kravitz’s pants also play another important role in his fitness regimen.
“I can gauge everything by how I’m in my pants,” the singer explained. “Like, if my pants are a little tight, I know I’m getting outta’ shape. My friend Denzel Washington gave me this phrase, ‘The pants don’t lie, the pants don’t lie.’”

Kravitz also shared that he doesn’t work out “to be big or bulky.”
“I want a very narrow silhouette, more like Spider-Man meets Bruce Lee, you know what I mean?” he said. “Bruce Lee looked good in clothes. He’s bad—a thin, cool guy who obviously had muscle tone and who moved and flowed really gracefully.”
The star explained that he goes the “natural” route when it comes to fitness.
“All this is natural: no peptides, no human growth hormone, no testosterone,” he said. “There’s nothing wrong if people want to do those things. But there’s an alternative. You can do it naturally with exercise and food. Is it harder? Yes. Does it take more work? Yes. But that’s how I choose to do it, and it’s 100 percent attainable.”

Kravitz has previously opened up about his go-to gym outfit.
In an April 2024 interview with Variety, the”Fly Away” singer addressed a viral TikTok video where he’s getting his workout in while wearing black leather pants.
“I’m always working out in leather pants or jeans and boots and whatever — if I’m not doing cardio,” he told the outlet. “If I’m doing cardio, obviously I’m going to wear sweats because I’m going to be sweating all over the place. But if I’m lifting weights, I don’t sweat so much.”

“So, a lot of times I’m coming from somewhere or I’m going somewhere. And I just don’t care,” he explained. “I’m gonna pop in, I’ve got 45 minutes, we’re gonna hit it and I’m gonna go run to where I’m going. So I don’t do it for effect. I didn’t do that to be like, ‘Oh, let me be just so different and wear leather pants and glasses.’ No, it’s just me walking in off the street.”

Kravitz then defended his exercises from the video, insisting that both he and his personal trainer take his workouts seriously.
“I know what I’m doing. And my trainer knows what he’s doing. And I know my body and what my body does and what it can do and how it feels and it’s all good,” he said. “I trained with elite athletes, I trained with football players, NFL and NBA stars. I trained with MLB stars, wrestlers, boxers. I’ve played with them all. I won’t mention names, but they’re all people you would know. And they’ll tell you I train very seriously.”
