Kacey Musgraves Shares Advice for Anyone Going Through a 'Dry Spell': 'Don't Get Desperate'

Kacey Musgraves knows a thing or two about going through a "Dry Spell."

During an interview with MuchMusic on Thursday, May 14, the country singer-songwriter was asked if she had any advice for someone experiencing the longing in her Middle of Nowhere track "Dry Spell."

"Stay patient. Don't lower your standards. Don't get desperate," Musgraves, 37, said.

She added, "You can have fun, but let's keep the standards high."

Musgraves released "Dry Spell" as the lead single from Middle of Nowhere in March. In the song, she sings about an extended period of time where she wasn't having sex.

"It's been a real long 335 days / And the last time, it wasn't good anyway," Musgraves sings in the opening of the track. "I'm so lonely, lonely with a capital 'H' / If you know what I mean, I've been sitting on the washing machine."

In a recent Variety cover story interview, the "Rhinestoned" singer revealed her grandma's reaction to the song.

"I've never talked about self-pleasure before," Musgraves told the outlet. "So that's a first for me: ‘Sitting on the washing machine.' It's not my grandma's favorite line, but it's mine, I guess."

She explained that her grandmother did know what the lyric meant, but at the time of the interview, she hadn't seen the music video.

"I don't know if she'll laugh," said Musgraves of her grandma, who was "rushed to the hospital" for a medical issue while the "Dry Spell" video shoot was happening.

"She had a really scary extreme high blood pressure incident," the "Slow Burn" singer said. "So I had to leave and I was on the call, crying, like, ‘If Nana lives, she's gonna hate this video!'"

During the Variety interview, Musgraves said her grandma was "doing great."

Later on in the album, Musgraves sings about breaking her dry spell with a passionate romance on "Mexico Honey."

"A beautiful song came out of it and the dry spell was ended. So if it can happen for me, it can happen for anyone," Musgraves said on MuchMusic.

Middle of Nowhere dropped on May 1.
