Jeremy Jordan has officially arrived at Broadway's Just in Time.
The theater favorite and Supergirl alum stepped into the role of Bobby Darin in the smash hit musical on Tuesday, April 21, taking over for Matthew Morrison and the Glee actor's predecessor Jonathan Groff, who originated the part.
PEOPLE can debut the first look at photos of Jordan in the production, which is playing at New York City's Circle in the Square Theatre.
“The show starts with me rising up from beneath the stage, but Tuesday night, they may as well have shot me out of a cannon,” Jordan, 41, tells PEOPLE.
“What a thrill it was to finally share my version of this show with an audience for the first time," he continues. "And what a gift this role and this company have been, challenging in all the good ways and just chock full of love and delight."

The actor is no stranger to the stage, having earned a Tony Award nomination for Newsies and starring on Broadway in Bonnie & Clyde, Waitress, American Son and The Great Gatsby. He also led the Off-Broadway run of Little Shop of Horrors to sold-out acclaim.
But Just in Time feels different than all those shows.
Developed and directed by Alex Timbers, the immersive musical transforms the theater into a swinging nightclub, where Jordan plays a version of himself telling the story of Darin's meteoric rise from teen idol to global sensation.

The setup puts Jordan both in the position of narrator and central star, as he sings and dances through the crooner's catalog of classics, including “Beyond the Sea,” “Mack the Knife,” “Splish Splash” and “Dream Lover" — often interacting with the audience as Darin was known to do during his star-making concerts.
“It honestly feels like nothing I've ever done before, and I can't wait to continue to take this ride each and every night," Jordan says.

Darin defied a fatal childhood diagnosis to become a chart-topping, genre-hopping showman with two Grammys and an Oscar nomination. His whirlwind life included a doomed romance with Connie Francis, a high-profile marriage to Sandra Dee and clashes with the Rat Pack.
But on December 20, 1973, at the young age of just 37, Darin died from complications of heart surgery. He had been fearful of death his whole life, and it finally caught up with him.
"His life is operatic," Groff previously told PEOPLE of Darin. "He was told he was going to die by the time he was 16 when he was 8. And the way we're kind of weaponizing his story in our show is: He accomplished a lot in a short period of time because he had this ticking clock. What we're hoping to give the audience is this message: Life is short. Live it to the fullest while you can.”
