NEED TO KNOW

  • Jeffrey Epstein died in his jail cell on Aug. 10, 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. His death was later ruled a suicide
  • Last month, the financier’s cellmate alleged to authorities that Epstein may have left a suicide note
  • A federal judge unsealed the alleged note on Wednesday, May 6; however, the note is undated, unsigned and has not been verified

Jeffrey Epstein's apparent suicide note has been unsealed by a federal judge.

Epstein died in his jail cell on Aug. 10, 2019, nearly a month after he was arrested for allegedly sex-trafficking girls as young as 14. The 66-year-old financier was awaiting trial when he died in what was later ruled a suicide.

On Wednesday, May 6, District Judge Kenneth Karas of the Southern District of New York unsealed what appears to be a handwritten note from Epstein.

"They investigated me for month[s] — Found NOTHING!!!” the note begins.

Epstein then allegedly referenced years-old charges, adding, "It is a treat to be able to choose one's time to say goodbye."

"Watcha want me to do — Bust out cryin!! NO FUN—NOT WORTH IT," he concluded.

The release of the note comes about a week after a petition from The New York Times to the court, and Epstein's former cellmate Nicholas Tartaglione's claim to authorities that Epstein had left a suicide note, per the outlet. Prior to its release, the note was locked in a courthouse in relation to Tartaglione's criminal case for the last seven years.

It is not dated or signed and has not been verified.

Tartaglione alleged that he found the note inside a graphic novel in July 2019, just after Epstein was discovered on the floor of his cell with injuries to his neck, per the Times. While Epstein previously told guards that Tartaglione had tried to kill him, according to a Bureau of Prisons memo in the Epstein Files, he later recanted and said it was a suicide attempt.

Tartaglione has "long denied" harming Epstein, the Times reported.
