Influencer Ashlee Jenae's Fiancé Joe McCann Is Being Questioned by Police After Her Death in Tanzania

Police in Zanzibar are continuing to investigate the death of Ashly Robinson, the content creator known online as Ashlee Jenae, who died while on a trip to the Tanzanian island.

The official Facebook account of the Tanzania Police Force released a statement from Zanzibar's North Unguja Regional Police on Tuesday, April 14, advising that Joe McCann, Robinson's fiancé, "continues to be questioned by the Police Force and his travel document has been withheld."

Zuberi Chembela, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Zanzibar and Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI), confirmed that McCann is still being questioned by police, noting that the investigation into her death is ongoing, per ABC News.

Police are speaking to McCann as a witness, and no arrests have been made, the BBC reported.

McCann did not respond to PEOPLE's previous request for comment.

Robinson's family announced her death in a statement on Instagram on Sunday, April 12.

"She and her fiancè, Joe McCann, were staying in a luxury villa at the Zuri Zanzibar, continuing what we believed was her dream trip," the late influencer's family said. "But just days later, that dream turned into our family's worst nightmare. Ashly was found unconscious in her villa and was rushed to a local hospital, where her death was confirmed hours later."

Zanzibar police said in their statement that Robinson and McCann checked into their hotel on April 6. She was found in her hotel room two days later and pronounced dead on April 9. Police said in a statement obtained by local outlet Mwanachi that they believed Robinson died by suicide.

The statement claims that prior to Robinson's death, there was a "misunderstanding" between her and McCann that caused hotel management to "separate" the pair into two different rooms.

Yolanda Denise Endres, Robinson's mother, confirmed that her daughter called on April 8 to tell her family that she and McCann had been moved into separate rooms after an argument, according to ABC 7.

Endres said that she received a call from McCann the next day, telling her that "Ashly did something to herself and she was being taken to the hospital, and he told me she was stable."

"I said what happened, and he told me it had been 11 hours prior," Endres said, noting that the hotel where the couple stayed notified Robinson's family about her death.
