Seniors at a North Carolina high school pulled off one epic prank as they prepared for their last day of school, and it caught their principal completely off guard.
The Northwest Guilford High School seniors snuck into the home of principal Dr. Brian Muller around 5 a.m. local time on Wednesday, May 27, according to CBS affiliate WFMY-TV and NBC affiliate WRAL-TV.
About 100 students participated in the prank, which started with them entering his home under the cover of darkness, and culminated in him walking into a living room crammed with seniors, per WFMY-TV.
In an extra special touch, Muller tells PEOPLE the students woke him up by playing Pomp and Circumstance, a song typically played at graduations.
Footage from inside the home showed the moment Muller opened the door to his living room and saw the students, who cheered as he entered the room.
“You got me, 100% you got me,” the principal said in front of the kids as they giggled with glee.
Muller later told WFMY-TV the students worked with his family to pull off the prank.
“I was confused and surprised, I think at the same time,” Muller told the news outlet, recalling the moment he walked in on the students.
In his statement to PEOPLE, Muller says he took the prank “as an act of appreciation and mutual respect that I have with my students.”
“Although it was a calculated risk, most of the students likely predicted that I would be a good sport about it,” the principal explains. "It is truly an honor to work with this generation and that we have some amazing students at Northwest Guilford High School.”

Muller also tells PEOPLE he held an assembly with the senior class at the beginning of the year, during which he “challenged them to take advantage of every opportunity throughout this senior year.”
And the class of 2026 did just that, taking his advice “all the way to the last instructional day of the school year by showing up in my living room at 5:15 a.m.”
