Gummer spoke out two months after Schlossberg said his mom, Caroline Kennedy, found humor in Gummer's portrayal of her in the FX series

Grace Gummer is speaking out after Jack Schlossberg said his mom, Caroline Kennedy, found humor in Gummer's portrayal of her in FX's Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette.
Schlossberg, 33, said during a recent appearance on Next Question with Katie Couric that he "showed [my mom] a clip of her, and we were laughing so hard."
“The person was freaking out,” said Schlossberg of Gummer's performance as Caroline, 68, “and we're just laughing so hard, as if that's how my mom acts.”
When asked about his criticism in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Saturday, June 6, Gummer, 40, said she approached the role head-on but understood where he was coming from.

“All I can say is, I really can't imagine what it's like to see your life portrayed onscreen," she said. "My goal was to play her with honesty and compassion and delicacy. I have an immense amount of respect for her.”
Although she said that no one from the Kennedy family has reached out to her directly, Gummer welcomed the chance to speak with Caroline.
“I would let her speak," she said.

Gummer, the daughter of Meryl Streep and Don Gummer, told ABC's On The Red Carpet in March that she worked to capture Caroline's "essence" while preparing for the show.
“I'm not interested, as an actor, in imitating people, so I just gathered information all over the place," she said. "And through reading and talking to people that she knows, I got an energy sense.”
Speaking with Town and Country that same month, Gummer also said that she has "so much admiration and respect for Caroline, and my greatest hope is that I did right by her."
Schlossberg has been one of the show's most outspoken critics, including during a March interview with CBS Sunday Morning about his congressional campaign.

“If you want to know someone who's never met anyone in my family, knows nothing about us, talk to Ryan Murphy,” he said when asked about the show. "The guy knows nothing about what he's talking about, and he's making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else's life.”

“I would hope that Mr. Murphy would donate some of the millions of dollars of profits that he's making to maybe some of the causes that John championed throughout his life,” continued Schlossberg. “Maybe he would donate some of that money to the JFK library to help keep President Kennedy's memory alive, but he's not. He's making money. This is not a documentary.”
