- This news came seven years before finding out her son Elijah Blue Allman secretly welcomed a daughter
Cher revealed her desire to become a grandmother years before finding out that her son, Elijah Blue Allman, quietly welcomed a daughter.
Back in 2018, the 79-year-old singer and actress spoke to The Mirror about her desire to become a grandma as she took on the role of Ruby Sheridan in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. During the conversation, Cher shared at the time that she wished that she had grandchildren, adding that she thinks grandparents are "more fun than parents."
“I don’t have any grandchildren. I wish I did, I really do,” Cher told The Mirror. “I think grandparents are more fun than parents. I once poured my gran’s perfume down the toilet and all she did was laugh and say, ‘Oh isn’t she adorable, what a funny thing’.”

During an interview with The Sun, Kayti Edwards, the step-granddaughter of Julie Andrews, revealed that she has a 15-year-old daughter, Ever, with Cher's younger son. Edwards, a former model who now owns a horse rescue center in Joshua Tree, Calif., told the outlet that she got pregnant in 2010 when she and Allman were briefly involved romantically but that he was not involved with the child because "he never wanted to be a parent."
Edwards claimed that after a 2021 drug overdose, Allman told his now-estranged wife that he had fathered a child, which "started the rumors in the family" — but said it wasn't until last summer that his mother had reached out to her.
"Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess," Edwards said. "She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021 but didn't know if it was just crazy talk. When she heard the news, she was speechless."
A rep for Cher had no comment when reached by PEOPLE.
Edwards told the outlet that her teenage daughter originally thought he was just a "family friend." In her interview with The Sun, Edwards said she didn't tell Ever that Allman is her father until last month.
“He wanted to see her and have a relationship with her, but he wasn't in any fit state," she said. “She thought he was just a family friend at that point."
“I had to shelter her from him and, when he gets better, he will appreciate that," Edwards added. "Cher is also very protective of Ever and the family dynamic and she knows Elijah's state and wants to protect that from her, too. He needs to get back to being the guy I once knew, and Cher agrees. We need to get him better."

Edwards added that Cher is "still processing the news" but has slowly begun to form a relationship with her granddaughter Ever, even inviting them to stay with her at her Malibu home last September, where they stayed the night.
"She was lovely and kind, and we had dinner," Edwards said. "Cher asked Ever if she wanted to see her closet and showed her a pair of jeans she had worn in concert. It was a cool experience for her. Cher was very childlike. They played in the pool, and she spoke to Ever about school and asked her about boys."
Edwards added that Cher sent Ever Christmas and birthday gifts and was in touch for both occasions.
"Cher really is trying. It's an adjustment, and I'm not pushing any relationship. It has to come naturally," Edwards said. "Elijah and his wife always said Cher didn't want to be a grandma and to keep Ever away, so I was nervous to introduce her, but it's been nothing but a good experience."
