A 66-year-old woman from California has reportedly died while snorkeling in Honolulu, Hawaii.
On Sunday, April 26, Jian-Ping Sun, from the city of Campbell in the San Francisco Bay Area, was found unresponsive in Hanauma Bay at around 9:30 a.m. local time, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, SFGATE and Hawaii News Now.
Lifeguards spotted that Sun was unconscious around 10 feet away from the shore, NBC Bay Area reported. They performed CPR, but she was sadly later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Honolulu Department of the Medical Examiner confirmed Sun’s death in an email to SFGATE.

Christian Hellum, a spokesperson for the Department of the Medical Examiner, told the outlet that the cause of death was still pending.
While it's unclear how Sun became unconscious in the bay, investigators don't believe foul play was a factor, according to NBC Bay Area.
Millions of people have visited and snorkeled at the location over the years, per the Hanauma Bay State Park website.
PEOPLE has reached out to the Honolulu Police Department, the Honolulu Medical Examiner and the Honolulu Ocean Safety Department for additional information, but didn't immediately receive a response.

The majority of injury-related deaths of people visiting Hawaii are caused by drowning, SFGATE reported. The outlet added that most of the fatalities were related to snorkeling.
The number of deaths has been rising over time, and this could be due to an increased number of visitors to the state over the years, SFGATE reported, citing officials.
