Every Brilliant Thing has already become one of Broadway’s buzziest plays of the season, and is up for a 2026 Tony for Best Revival of a Play. The show also recently won an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Solo Performance.
Written by Duncan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe and directed by Jeremy Herrin, the play follows a person reflecting on their life through a running list of all the small joys and beautiful moments that made life worth living.
“I’ve been a fan of Tracee’s work for a long time and knew her quick-wit, intelligence and emotional depth would be the perfect fit for Every Brilliant Thing,” Macmillan said in a statement. “We are beyond thrilled that she has chosen to make her Broadway debut with us this summer. We can’t wait to welcome her to the Hudson Theatre, and for audiences to experience her unique take on the play.”
Ross is best known for starring as Rainbow Johnson on ABC’s Black-ish, a role that earned her a Golden Globe Award, five NAACP Image Awards and multiple Emmy nominations. She also starred for eight seasons on Girlfriends and has appeared in projects including American Fiction, Black Mirror and Candy Cane Lane.
Beyond acting, Ross is also the founder and co-CEO of PATTERN Beauty and recently signed a multiyear first-look deal with Fox Entertainment Studios through her production company Joy Mill Entertainment.
Every Brilliant Thing has been performed in more than 80 countries and was previously adapted into an HBO special starring co-creator Donahoe. It transferred to Broadway following an acclaimed West End run.
The Broadway production has also formed an official partnership with mental health nonprofit Project Healthy Minds to reduce barriers to care by making support options for mental health services easily accessible to those in need.
