Tommy Dorfman is sounding off after she says she caught a fellow passenger making transphobic comments about her via text during a flight.
On Friday, May 1, the 33-year-old 13 Reasons Why actress shared an Instagram carousel filled with photos and video of an unidentified man sitting beside her, texting people on his phone to express his disdain for sitting near a trans person in first class.
“I am in the first aisle of First Class. Guess what is sitting next to me?” the person wrote in part. “A f—ing transsexual in the midst of going from a man to a woman Just my luck I was hoping for a hot babe!!”

The message was part of a group chat with two other people.
Dorfman, who made a Pics Stitch of the passenger and shared a zoomed-in shot of the text, added the caption “someone get your grandpa” over the man’s head.
A second photo in the carousel showed the unidentified man texting a woman named Samantha about Dorfman, sending the same message as before but adding, “2 and a half hours of sitting next to this freak!!”
“Just remember many people you love are lgbtq+ and this country sucks for them right now. Be Kind!” the recipient replied, also wishing him safe travels.
Dorfman praised the response, writing over the image, “wait samantha ily girl.”
Two more photos and one video followed, showing the I Wish You All the Best actress zooming in on the phone conversation of the man sitting beside her.
“objectively, i know i’m not ‘passing’ and i’m ‘bricky’ and ‘clocky’ but passing hasn’t been the point for me nor should it be for any trans person,” Dorfman began in the carousel's lengthy caption.
“we are all allowed to evolve in any way that feels true and that evolution can expand and contract. it’s always been about alignment and autonomy for my own comfort, not the comfort of others or the expectations of society,” she continued.

Dorfman called out the “audacity” of the man to not only make transphobic comments about her, but also for making what she described as “deeply misogynistic and revolting comments on our flight attendants.”
The Fluidity actress said the choices she’s made have allowed her “to feel safe and comfortable in my body and spirit.”
She also had a message for anyone who may be wondering why she chose to post the texts online: “because i can and this man is an alt right vampire AND because samantha deserves her flowers.”
