- Tom Holland joined his The Odyssey costars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson for an interview answering internet-submitted questions
- Asked if Zendaya’s character Athena loves Damon’s character Odysseus “romantically,” Holland quipped, “No, because she’s married to me”
- Holland and Zendaya tied the knot recently, Holland previously revealed
Tom Holland is feeling possessive of Zendaya — or at least the new character she plays.
The two actors, who recently tied the knot, star in Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic The Odyssey (in theaters Friday, July 17), starring Matt Damon as Odysseus. In a new video interview for Wired, Holland joked about his wife’s love interests onscreen as the Greek goddess Athena.
“Did Athena love Odysseus romantically?” recited Holland, 30, reading from submitted questions about the movie and its source material.
“No,” quipped the Spider-Man star, “because she’s married to me.”

Holland’s costars Damon, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson, laughed at his response. “Yep. Good answer,” chimed in Damon, 55.
In The Odyssey, Athena (played by Zendaya, 29) appears in visions to Damon’s warrior as he attempts to return to his home on Ithaca. Following the events of the Trojan War and his voyage back, Odysseus has been absent for 20 years from home, where his wife Penelope (Hathaway) and their son Telemachus (Holland) are fending off her suitors, including Antinous (Pattinson).

When Holland asked the submitted question, “Why does Athena choose Odysseus?” Damon responded thoughtfully. “This is difficult in the context of our movie without giving things away. Because does Athena choose Odysseus or does Odysseus choose Athena?”
He added, “Spoiler alert. That’s all we can say.”

Meanwhile, when asked about what Zendaya’s Athena teaches Holland’s Telemachus, Damon quipped, “True love.” Holland agreed: “Yeah.”
Holland confirmed in an interview with Esquire published in June that he and Zendaya, famous for keeping their romance out of the public eye, had tied the knot. The Euphoria Emmy winner’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, had announced in March that their “wedding has already happened. You missed it.”
The two actors appear this summer in both The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day (in theaters July 30). They had originally met while filming the franchise launcher, 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The Odyssey, also starring Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Corey Hawkins, John Leguizamo, Jon Bernthal, Samantha Morton, Benny Safdie and Travis Scott, is in theaters Friday.
