Taylor Swift’s Wedding Guest Greg James Says Travis Kelce Gave Him a ‘Bear Hug’ on Big Day: ‘Like Being Hugged by a Mountain’

Radio host Greg James is spilling the details about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelces starry wedding at Madison Square Garden.

On his BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show on Wednesday, July 8, James, 40, was questioned about his absence while he flew to New York to be among the reported 1,000 guests at Swift and Kelce’s special day on Friday, July 3.

And one detail listeners were keen to get to the bottom of was whether James was in fact “wrestled” by Kelce, 36, at the wedding, as Swift, also 36, had promised when she invited him during an October 2025 interview.

While the Brit told listeners that’s not exactly how it unfolded, the Kansas City Chiefs player did “bear hug” him.

“I did go up to [Travis] and he did give me a huge bear hug,” James said, adding, “It is like being hugged by a mountain.”

He went on to explain that Kelce is “way taller than him , 6’5”, 6’6”, he’s big, he’s an NFL player, he’s huge.”

James also described Kelce’s hug as “ verycomforting,” adding that wrestling moves may have been “inappropriate” for a wedding. “Choke slamming me through a table, I would have been up for it though,” he quipped.

James also made sure to chat to the bride at the nuptials, sharing that he told Swift how “unbelievably difficult” it had been to keep his attendance at the wedding and any details secret. 

Earlier in the interview, James had lifted the lid on another element of the big day that had been shrouded in secrecy: the invitations themselves. 

DJ James shared that after receiving an informal invitation while interviewing Swift on BBC Radio 1 in October 2025, the official invitation arrived on March 12, the night before he was set to start a charity bike ride, during which he was joined by Prince William for one leg.

“This link came through saying that you’ve been invited to the wedding and it was the night before the Comic Relief challenge,” he said.

“I had to sit with it all week. I basically turned my phone straight off and thought, ‘I can’t deal with that now, it’s too mad.’ I didn’t tell anyone for the whole week,” he added, noting that “There was no paper invite to follow, it was all electronic.”

James also said that he and his wife, author Bella Mackie, worried it could be a “scam.”

“Until we were in there, there was a huge part us, that me and Bella were like, ‘This could not be real. This could be a scam.’ So until we were in, we thought we may have made a big trip here for nothing. I wasn’t sure until we got there,” James noted.

James, who has known the “Blank Space” singer for over ten years, went on to share more details about the nuptials, including that the food was “plentiful and delicious.”

“You know at a wedding you sometimes get the first drink free, well this was you get the first 10,00 drinks free.”

He also called the event “unbelievably fun” and that he had “the best night, maybe ever.” “It was like going to Madame Tussauds.”

“They were just having a great time. They both looked amazing, they were on the dance floor … there were multiple cakes,” James added. “There was an open invitation to get up on the stage and dance while the DJ was on, so I did … All the songs were on.”

Though when it came to certain details, James said he “didn’t want to blow this,” and answered “no comment” to questions about Swift’s dress, whether she made outfit changes and if she sang.”

However, James did confirm that Swift’s pet cats — Meredith, Olivia and Benjamin — were not in attendance at the nuptials.
