Princess Diana’s brother doubles down on King Charles’ ‘monstrous’ remarks about ex-wife’s death

Princess Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, the 9th Earl Spencer, insisted he is “telling the truth” about King Charles’ “monstrous” remarks about his ex-wife after her death.

“I can tell you here and now, those are exactly the words he said,” Spencer told the BBC Friday.

“I was hyper alert to what he was saying and those are precisely the words that he said and I promise that to you now. Genuinely, that is what he said. I don’t hear him saying he didn’t say that.”

When Spencer was asked whether he had evidence to back his shocking claim, he said he had repeated what the monarch said to family and friends at the time “because it was so monstrous.”

As Page Six previously reported, Spencer claims that Charles told him Diana would be forgotten “soon enough” in a phone call following her death in 1997.

The shocking allegation was made in an excerpt from his forthcoming memoir “Swan Song: Diana, My Sister,” obtained by the Daily Mail.

In the book, he recalls Charles allegedly releasing his “pent-up contempt for Diana” following her tragic Paris car accident.

Spencer writes that after the remark was made, he was too “stunned” to respond.

“I can’t believe you just said that,” Spencer allegedly told Charles, before hanging up.

However, Charles, 77, vehemently denied the harsh comment was ever made.

A rep for Buckingham Palace told Page Six, “While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss.”

Diana and Charles tied the knot in 1981 and divorced in 1996. She died the following year at just 36.

Also in his novel, Spencer revealed Charles’ “odd wish” for Diana’s funeral, which to walk directly behind her casket — despite their split.

“It is hard to see why, given his feelings for Diana,” he added.

Spencer claimed Charles’ decision “was out of fear” that if he walked alone, the public “might shout abuse at him.”

Throughout the book, Spencer details the rollercoaster relationship between Charles and Diana.

Their marriage, notably, was plagued by extramarital affairs on both ends, with Charles’ being with his now-wife, Queen Camilla.

“Swan Song: Diana, My Sister” hits bookshelves Sept. 22.
