NEED TO KNOW

  • A couple’s Oklahoma wedding was briefly interrupted by police responding to a noise complaint
  • The officers were welcomed by the bride and groom and even posed for photos with the pair
  • The Moore Police Department joked about the incident on social media and wished the couple well

A couple’s wedding party in Oklahoma got crashed by a pair of unexpected guests — police officers.

The Moore Police Department (MPD) revealed how the officers ended up accidentally joining the party briefly while responding to a night shift call on their social media on Tuesday, August 4.

MPD shared that dispatch received a report about “loud music” and “vehicles everywhere.” When two officers arrived on the scene to check it out, they found a “wedding celebration” fully underway.

“We had the wedding later in the evening so we expected to have some noise complaint call.

I think everyone was just all eyes on us and the police officers just seeing what was going to go on next,” bride Savannah Franklin told local outlet KFOR.

Once they arrived the officers were welcomed into the celebration by the bride and groom and their guests. Franklin recalled, “We’re like, ‘Welcome in. What do you need? You guys want anything?’”

Body Cam footage of the event shared by police showed the officers entering a gate into a backyard as guests could be heard calling out to police, “What up police?” Another called out and said, “Come on back, you want a taco?,” as an officer could be heard laughing.

Another person could be heard saying, “Come here take a picture with the police.” The video then cut to a guest snapping a picture as an officer held a thumbs up to the camera. Police intercut the video with scenes from the Wedding Crashers film.

“Forever memory unlocked. Case status: Successfully crashed,” they wrote over the video

The police ended up sharing the photo on social media. The bride and groom could be seen with big smiles as they stood next to the two officers. “Somehow, two officers accidentally got promoted to Best Man and Best Woman,” MPD joked about the photos.

The officers told the wedding celebrants to turn down their volume, something Franklin said they made sure to do — and the officers “were on their merry way, all smiles,” Franklin told KFOR. She added, “We really appreciate the two officers. They had the best attitude ever.”

“We did continue throughout the night to joke about it because my mom did tell me, ‘You have to post that on the Moore Community Group on Facebook because we knew that it would be a hit in there,’ ” she continued. “We knew that everyone would join in and laugh with us, and from there, the Moore Police Department took it and ran with it and made it even better.

“One of the things that makes policing so unique is that no two calls are ever the same. On this night, what started as a routine call ended with our officers being welcomed into a wedding celebration, sharing laughs, posing for photos, and even being offered tacos by the wedding party,” the MPD told PEOPLE in a statement.

“Those are the moments that remind us why community policing matters. Behind every call is an opportunity to connect with the people we serve. We’re incredibly thankful the couple shared such a meaningful moment, and we’re honored that a few minutes of our night became a memory they’ll always have and one our officers won’t forget either.”

In MPD’s post, they wished the couple well, saying, “Congratulations to the happy couple!”

“Thanks for letting Night Shift crash your big day. We wish you a lifetime of happiness, laughter, and neighbors who don’t call about your anniversary party next year… But if they do, let us know. ,” they teased.
