Luke Wilson says he completely forgot the name of the character he played in Legally Blonde when fans approached him calling him “Emmett.”
Wilson, 54, spoke on a recent episode of the Out of Order podcast, explaining how he was home in Dallas and eating at a Mexican restaurant when he was approached by a group of young fans.
“This group of like little girls came up like 8, 9, 10. They were like, ‘Are you Emmett?’ And I said, ‘No, I’m not Emmett.’ And then they kind of laughed,” he explained. “And then they kind of skittered back like little birds. And they were like, ‘You’re Emmett.’ And I said, ‘Girls, I don’t — where are your parents? I don’t know who Emmett is and I don’t know what you’re talking about.’ ”

He continued: “And then they were like, ‘You were in Legally Blonde.’ I said, ‘Oh, Emmett.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t even know my character’s name.’ I said, ‘Okay, yes, I’m Emmett. I’m sorry. Let’s get a picture.’ ”
Premiering in 2001, Legally Blonde followed bubbly sorority girl Elle Woods (played by Reese Witherspoon) who studies to get into Harvard Law after her boyfriend dumps her to attend the university and find a more serious partner. After she gets in, she makes a name for herself as someone smart and ambitious, falling for the kind-hearted Emmett along the way.
