Kelly Rowland knows the secret to a long marriage (in her case, to husband Tim Weatherspoon) is very simple: You actually have to like one another!
The singer and actress, 45, married Weatherspoon, 52, in 2014. The couple celebrated 12 years of marriage last month. They also share sons Titan Jewell, 11 and Noah Jon, 5, and Rowland recently opened up to PEOPLE while speaking on behalf of her partnership with Eli Lilly's Ebglyss eczema drug what makes their family dynamic work.
"I like him," she says of her husband. "I genuinely like him as a person. I think he's a great man. I think that he comes from a wonderful family. I think that he's so smart, and handsome, and figures things out, and he's cool and he has great music taste, and he's really good with our kids."

Rowland's family is a tight-knit unit, and she brought her kids on her most recent tour, The Boy is Mine Tour. While performing at Forever Mine Music Festival in Chicago last month, her son Titan was "not very happy" to miss out on the fun, and wants her to start up a new tour so he can tag along. Her sons are by her side every step of the way, watching her rehearse until the show is perfect.
"The biggest thing for me is them watching me in rehearsal and not just seeing the final outcome," she says. "That's the part I want them to really pay attention to, not the ending part, because the ending part is great, but it's the process that gets you to the end."
Rowland has been busy working on a variety of different projects. Earlier this year, she released her single "Complicated" for the film Relationship Goals, in which she also starred.
The "Motivation" singer began performing in the early '90s, in first what was known as Girl's Tyme and then what would become Destiny's Child. She remains close with her former groupmates Beyoncé, 44, and Michelle Williams, 46, opening up earlier this year about how reliable they have been through the past three decades.
"I've known them for so long," she said. "They hold me accountable when I am figuring things out. They love me through my ugly. We laugh together, we experience joy together, we experience honesty together, life together, and that's the best part."

While she can't share exactly what she's been working on in recent months, she says her "cup runneth over with joy" in her professional and personal life. She remains passionate about both signing and acting, but songwriting is the most "personal" part of her job.
"I didn't know that all these things that are dancing around in my head were some really cool things to try," she says. "It's the excitement of something not being there and then being a part of putting that together, it's still mind-blowing to this day."
