After his cohost, Kevin Jonas, 38, asked how she was “feeling,” the daytime TV host shared that his wife was “feeling better” and even “saying certain things.”
Jonas then asked if she was “allowed to speak” after the surgery, and Consuelos admitted, “I don’t think so,” before adding, “But she’s doing it without moving her bottom lip.”

A gum graft is a common periodontal procedure used to treat receding or thinning gums by transferring healthy gum tissue to cover exposed tooth roots. According to the Cleveland Clinic, the surgery can help reduce tooth sensitivity, protect against further gum recession and improve overall oral health.
After announcing that Ripa had undergone the gum graft surgery, Consuelos shared on Live with Kelly and Mark that she had to follow a lengthy list of recovery instructions, including not talking. Jonas joked, “That’s got to be the hardest thing she’s ever done.”
Consuelos shared on Monday that he’d been “trying to keep her to follow the rules” and “follow the directions” from her dentist following the procedure. Other rules include eating only soft foods, avoiding straws and resisting the urge to inspect the surgical site.
Consuelos shared on Tuesday that his wife got sent some sweet treats — which she was able to eat under her dentist’s rules — to help her along with her recovery.
“We had ice cream delivered last night from our good friends out in Palm Springs. Really good ice cream,” he said.
The Riverdale actor said that Ripa’s doctor recommended the procedure years ago and noted that the recovery was especially “painful” — especially for his wife who handles it well.

“… She famously doesn’t feel pain. When she goes into the dentist, she doesn’t use the novocaine. But this one hurts, so I know it’s bad,” Consuelos said.
Ripa is expected to be out Live for the next week, a rep for the show confirmed to PEOPLE.
