Hoda Kotb is in awe of her friend Savannah Guthrie amid a turbulent time in the Today show anchor’s personal life.
As Savannah remains off the NBC morning show amid the continued search for her 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, the 54-year-old is speaking out in her first televised interview alongside Kotb, 61.
The first clip from the emotional exchange aired on Wednesday, March 25, with a tearful Savannah continuing her plea for “someone” to “do the right thing.”
“We are in agony. We are in agony,” Savannah repeated through tears. “It is unbearable. And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night and in the darkness, I imagine her terror and it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought.”
The brutal clip left Savannah’s colleagues visibly emotional with Carson Daly wiping away tears and asking Kotb how she was holding up.

“I’m okay,” Kotb said. “There is a desperation and also a steeliness about Savannah. She’s hoping somebody, whoever this person is will see something and say something.”

The mother of two added that she’s also “marveling” at her friend and colleague’s ability to “sit there with an outfit on, have a conversation, and also have just direct thoughts about what she sees going forward."

“It’s gut-wrenching to watch someone you love so much be still post-50 days of this tragic event in this tortured limbo state,” Daly added. “Yet, to still show so much resilience and grace among it all.”
The remainder of the interview will air on Thursday, March 26, and Friday, March 27.
