Heidi Klum is already hard at work planning this year’s Halloween costume. What can we expect, exactly? “It goes very well with red wine,” she tells PEOPLE. “It’s very, very bloody.”
The hint couldn’t come at a better time, as the supermodel is partnering with Apothic Wine on a drop of limited-edition Apothic Type ‘A’ Blood Bags (available on September 17 at 10:31 p.m. ET). “A great glass of wine is always fun… and most of the time you think of something gory when you have a blood transfusion bag,” Klum says. “That’s what Halloween is all about. We go gory, and we go there.”

Klum is no stranger to spending hours in a makeup chair, but clocking in for her yearly Halloween transformation can feel especially hard on the skin. “Everything needs to be removed; otherwise, the prosthetics don’t stay,” she shares. “Getting all of the prosthetics off, too. It’s basically like nail polish remover on the face… I’ve had chunks ripped off my chest before because they went too fast.”
Because of this, she relies on a decadent moisturizer to give her complexion a little post-party T.L.C. “Afterwards, I use the midnight cream from L’Oréal Paris,” Klum explains. “It’s the richest cream, and it’s more for aging skin.” Packed with Vitamin E, antioxidants, and shea butter, it’s her go-to skincare product to “get everything back” to normal.

Another challenge Klum faces every Halloween? Trying to avoid the restroom while in costume. “I try to hydrate during the day, because once I go into costume — or usually two, three hours before — I just won’t drink anything,” she admits. “Especially if it’s like the worm or something I can’t take off… all the drinking has to be done before.”
