Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill were both part of the DC Extended Universe and costarred in movies like ‘Batman v Superman’ and ‘Justice League’

NEED TO KNOW

  • Gal Gadot said the end of her and Henry Cavill’s time starring as Wonder Woman and Superman on the big screen, respectively, “was not handled elegantly”
  • Filmmaker James Gunn rebooted the DC film universe with 2025’s Superman, starring David Corenswet
  • Gadot previously stated as recently as 2023 that she intended to make a third Wonder Woman movie

Gal Gadot is sharing how her time as Wonder Woman on the big screen came to an end in recent years.

Gadot, 41, reflected on the changing of the tides that took place inside DC Studios, which is a division of Warner Bros. Discovery, after filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran took over as heads of the studio in 2022 when she appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast Monday, Aug. 31 to discuss her new movie, The Runner.

Gadot, of course, portrayed Wonder Woman across two solo movies and in team-up films like Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League opposite Henry Cavill’ss Superman and Ben Affleck‘s Batman in the 2010s.

“No, they told me the opposite,” she said on the podcast, when asked if there was a specific moment where she learned her time as Wonder Woman had ended. “They were like ‘We’re going to develop it with you, the third,’ la la la. But I saw the way everybody else were handled.”

Gadot has said as recently as in 2023 that she still intended to make a third Wonder Woman movie, even after Gunn and Safran, both 60, pivoted to casting David Corenswet to play Clark Kent and Superman in the now-rebooted DC cinematic universe. “The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least,” Gadot said on the podcast. “Same with [Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins]. It was not handled elegantly.”

“I feel like, you know, we’re all adults, and it’s all good and it’s not even about [Gunn and Safran],” she continued. “They are there and they’re there to do what they believe in and it’s all good. I’m so grateful that I got the opportunity to wear these boots and to have the character be so celebrated and be the vessel at that point of time, and I can only wish for whoever it’s going to be [next] to really come pure to this journey because as much as we’re talking about movies and superheroes, this character really means so much to so many of us.”

Gadot added, “[I want the next actor] to really use it respectfully and bring all the love and light it can into this world, and then enjoy the ride. It was never mine. I was always just a vessel. This is Hollywood.”

The actress made her last appearance on the big screen as Wonder Woman in an uncredited performance in 2023’s The Flash. Gunn, for his part, told Entertainment Weekly in June 2025 that a new Wonder Woman movie was “being written right now” while he promoted Corenswet’s first Superman installment. No casting for that character has yet been announced.

Corenswet’s Superman debuted in July 2025. Since then, Gunn and his fledgling franchise have introduced Milly Alcock as Superman’s cousin, and her solo movie, Supergirl, debuted in theaters in June. Tom Rhys Harries stars in the next DC movie Clayface, in theaters Oct. 23, and Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult and Rachel Brosnahan will reprise their roles from Superman in the July 2027 follow-up Man of Tomorrow.

Adria Arjona will also star in Man of Tomorrow in an undisclosed role, though Variety reported in April that she will play a character named Proxima in the movie.

Gadot’s newest movie, The Runner, sees her play a woman who races on foot throughout London to save her son after he is abducted. Following The Runner‘s release, she next expects to appear on the big screen in the next Fast and Furious movie, Fast Forever, currently expected to premiere in March 2027.

The Runner premieres globally on Prime Video Wednesday, Sept. 2.
