After Cardinal was born in 2024, a source told PEOPLE that Diaz, 53, and Benji, 47, felt “beyond lucky” to welcome their second child.
“They were always hoping for a second baby because they love being parents," the insider said.
"For years, Cameron wanted to be a mom," the source added. "She gets very emotional when she talks about the long journey to motherhood. She feels beyond lucky to now have two children.”
And while she has abstained from discussing her children, Diaz has been candid about motherhood and the decision to welcome children later in life.
“The women who have children my age are like, literally 20 years younger and that's an interesting place to be because I'm not that age,” she said during a March 2022 interview with BBC Radio 2's Michelle Visage. “And that's totally OK. But I want to feel vital like that for my child.”
In an October 2020 interview with Naomi Campbell, Diaz joked that she planned to live well past 100 so she could be there for her children.
“When you're my age and you decide to do it, it's a real choice,” she said. “You really have to work hard for it. The only pressure for me is like I have to live to be, like 107, you know? So no pressure!”
