A Welsh bride is hopping aboard the train to the rest of her life.
Decked out in her wedding dress and veil and clutching a bridal bouquet, Bethan Thomas rode the Coryton line of the South Wales Metro from Birchgrove to Penarth — about a half-hour journey — to get to her ceremony at Penarth Pier Pavilion on May 9. The train, part of Transport for Wales, made the couple's day all the more special for Thomas and her now-husband, Chris Seddon.
"For one day only," he quipped to local station KTen, "Transport for Veils!"
Thomas and Seddon are both longtime travelers on the Coryton line, so much so that one of their first wedding planning decisions was to find a way to include the service in their big day. Thomas told KTen there was "no better way" to kick off their wedding.
"Right from the start of our relationship, we've enjoyed using the Coryton line as a great way to quickly access Penarth, with its beautiful front and many great restaurants," she told the outlet.
Transport for Wales, which operates the South Wales Metro, helped make Thomas's all-important ride all the more special. Thomas's trip was made on one of the "lovely" brand-new Class 756 trains, and she got to sit in the driver's seat for a whimsical photo-op. Thomas also received a massive train ticket from the crew that read, "Congratulations Bethan & Chris."
Thomas didn't take the train alone — her whole bridal party made the journey with her, she shared. Transport for Wales staff and fellow passengers cheered the group on as they boarded.
"I know our guests were very surprised when they heard my plan," Thomas said, adding "the bridal party had the best time and it got me to the ceremony right on time!"

Marie Daly, the chief operating officer at Transport for Wales, told KTen the service was thrilled to be included in the couple's special day.
"As regular users of the Coryton line, their journey is a reminder of how public transport connects people to the moments that matter," Daly said, adding that TfW is happy to have "played a small part in their celebrations."
