NEED TO KNOW

  • Branson Oduor was last seen in the 1600 block of Thames Street in Baltimore during the early morning hours of April 4
  • Footage captured Oduor outside the bar in the Fells Point neighborhood the night of his disappearance
  • The Baltimore Police Department later confirmed that human remains found in the Inner Harbor the morning of April 14 belonged to Oduor

Authorities in Baltimore confirmed that a body recovered from the Inner Harbor belongs to a 27-year-old man who went missing after leaving a bar alone during a night out with friends.

In an email to PEOPLE, the Baltimore Police Department said that on the morning of Tuesday, April 14, Branson Oduor's remains were found in the water in the 500 block of E. Pratt Street.

“His remains were transported to the Medical Examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of his death," police said. “The investigation is ongoing.”

Police previously said Oduor was last seen in the 1600 block of Thames Street in Baltimore during the early morning hours of April 4, CBS affiliate WJZ reported.

Loved ones said Oduor, an accountant, went out with friends that night, but later went to the Horse You Came In On Saloon alone, according to Fox affiliate WBFF.

Footage captured Oduor outside the bar in the Fells Point neighborhood the night of his disappearance, WJZ reported.

Oduor was seen stumbling out of the establishment around 2 a.m. local time, WBFF reported. He then spoke with three people before walking away alone. The same outlet also noted that surveillance footage showed that he passed by a record store around 2:38 a.m.

"He was seen struggling to ride his electric bicycle and was stopped by private security who were posted in the area," Baltimore Police Department told WBFF. They said he was last seen "running northbound on S. Central Ave from Fleet Street.”

The bike was found in the vicinity of the 600 block of South President Street five days later after Oduor was seen, WJZ reported.

Police said that there was presence of trauma on Oduor’s body possibly linked to injuries he sustained after falling off his bike, WBFF and NBC affiliate WBAL reported. Authorities said that foul play is not suspected.

Prior to the discovery of his body, Oduor's loved ones had been searching for him. His father arrived from Kenya on Thursday, April 9, to take part in the search.

"It was just shock… it was unbelievable… because it's very unlike him… he usually calls," Millicent Oduor, the victim’s mother, said of her son, WJZ reported.

Emily Costa, Oduor's girlfriend, shared a statement with WBAL following the news of her boyfriend’s death. "He was loved by a large community and will be greatly missed,” she said.
