Blair Underwood says his kids enjoy watching his movie and TV projects — provided he keeps his clothes on in the role.
The 61-year-old actor sat down for an exclusive PEOPLE in 10 interview to promote his new book, A Soldier's Wife: My Mother, the Marvelous Mrs. Marilyn A. Underwood, which was published on April 14. During the conversation, he said his three children — sons Paris, 29, and Blake, 24, and daughter Brielle, 27 — "don't mind" watching him onscreen.
"But they don't like seeing my naked body," he revealed, "like on Sex and the City or some of the other [things] I've done."
"They refuse, and I refuse for them," he joked.

Blair previously spoke about his Sex and the City role — he played Dr. Robert Leeds, a love interest of Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) — and shared that his kids have watched him in the show.
During an appearance on The View earlier this month, co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said, “Sex and the City keeps getting rediscovered by the younger generations, and I understand your kids recently have gotten into it. What's their reaction to watching it?”
Blair replied, “Well, their reaction is, they're happy that their dad's on this show, but they're also like, ‘All my friends are telling me they saw your butt.' ”
He joked, “Listen, it's before your time.”

While Blair's kids may avoid his steamier scenes, the Youngblood star told PEOPLE that he earned "brownie points" with them — "and with a whole lot of folks" — for his role in the 2025 film One Spoon of Chocolate because it was written and directed by rapper RZA of Wu-Tang Clan.
"I can go out and do all kinds of things that I'm having a great time with that they don't know anything about or care about. But whenever it's somebody they know, or get excited about, you definitely get brownie points with the kids," he said.

He said his kids also enjoyed watching him in the 2024 horror film Longlegs and in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series. "They really were into that," he said of the MCU project.
With his new book, written with Ylonda Gault, Underwood honors the life and career of his late mother, Marilyn, who died in 2020. It traces Marilyn's journey from working as an assistant designer to the first Black female executive at Barmon Brothers Company, and her eventual marriage to Lieutenant Frank Underwood.
"My mother was elegance and strength in motion,” Blair told PEOPLE in an exclusive statement. “In the 1950s, she was already a visionary, an entrepreneur, a fashion designer who broke barriers at Bowman Brothers and a ‘fly’ military wife who never asked permission to become but stood boldly anchored in her purpose.”
"This book is her legacy, and everything I am began with her," he added.
A Soldier's Wife: My Mother, the Marvelous Mrs. Marilyn A. Underwood is available now wherever books are sold.
