By the power of Grayskull, He-Man is headed back to theaters — more than 40 years after the muscle-bound hero first debuted as a Mattel action figure in 1982.
He-Man quickly became a pop culture phenomenon thanks to the 1983 animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and has since inspired multiple TV adaptations, comics and films — including the cult-favorite 1987 movie starring Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella and Courteney Cox.
Now the iconic superhuman character is being brought to life again, this time in a new live-action movie, Masters of the Universe, starring Nicholas Galitzine.
"It has been a dream for so long to play someone of his heart, humour and heroism, I cannot wait to get started," Galitzine wrote on Instagram when his casting was announced in May 2024.

What is Masters of the Universe about?

The action in the upcoming Masters of the Universe will span both Earth and Eternia.
According to the film's trailer, as a boy, Prince Adam was sent away from his home planet of Eternia to hide on Earth. Living a normal life as Adam Glenn, he is stuck in a boring office job, while daydreaming of fantasy and faraway lands.
After finding the mythical Sword of Power, Adam makes his way back to Eternia, "where he discovers his home shattered under the fiendish rule of Skeletor," according to a synopsis for the movie.
"To save his family and his world, Adam must join forces with his closest allies, Teela and Duncan/Man-At-Arms," the description continues. "And embrace his true destiny as He-Man — the most powerful man in the universe."

Masters of the Universe stars Galitzine as He-Man and Jared Leto as his evil nemesis, Skeletor.
The rest of the cast includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull. Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson plays Malcolm/Fisto and Kristin Wiig voices the character Roboto.
In December 2025, Galitzine told PEOPLE how bulking up for his He-Man role was "the hardest thing" he's ever done, noting it was "a daily challenge."
"But there is something incredibly empowering about committing to something so heavily," he explained. "I've never had a challenge like that before, which really every single day you have to wake up and you can see the peak of the mountain vaguely, but especially when you're bulking."
"I think it would be insincere for me to say that it was easy," added the Mary & George actor.

Travis Knight is the director of Masters of the Universe.
He previously helmed 2016's Kubo and the Two Strings and the 2018 Transformers movie Bumblebee.

The nearly three-minute teaser gives fans a closer look at Galitzine's transformation into He-Man as Prince Adam reconnects with the Power Sword and embraces his destiny.
“I know most of you don't remember me, but I know all of you,” he says to the people of Eternia. “Even though I was stuck light-years away on Earth, I never stopped trying to get back home. This is my home. I'm gonna fight for it, but I can't do it without you.”
The footage also previews He-Man's looming battle against Skeletor while introducing key allies, including Teela and Man-At-Arms.
