Zendaya’s ‘Personality Makes Her Perfect for Tom’ Holland, Says Source: ‘She Sits Back and Lets Him Glow’ (Exclusive)

Zendaya is the real-life MJ to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker!

Shortly after news of the Spider-Man couple’s engagement broke, a source told PEOPLE that “everyone is thrilled” that Holland, 28, popped the question to Zendaya, 28, because the pair are a perfect match.

“Zendaya is obviously so pretty, but it’s truly her personality that makes her perfect for Tom,” the source said. “She’s beyond sweet, very caring and makes you feel special.”

Meanwhile, the Dune star is “very outgoing with a big personality.”

“Zendaya doesn’t mind when he’s the center of attention. She sits back and lets him glow,” the source continued. “Everyone is thrilled about the engagement.”

A separate source told PEOPLE that Holland — who first confirmed his off-screen romance with the Challengers actress in 2021 after they were spotted kissing in a car — “always knew she was the one.”

“He’s always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one. They have something very special,” the source said, noting that Holland shared the happy news with friends around New Year’s.

The source added that “everyone close to them knew the engagement was happening,” just not when.

Engagement buzz first sparked for the pair on Sunday, Jan. 5, when Zendaya walked the red carpet at the 2025 Golden Globes sporting a sparkling diamond ring on that ring finger.

The engagement ring appears to be a 5.02ct East-West Cushion Diamond Button Back Ring from the London-based jewelry brand Jessica McCormack. At the awards show, the Euphoria star took the opportunity to flash her engagement ring throughout the evening.

Since TMZ first announced her engagement on Monday, Jan. 6, the bride-to-be has taken the opportunity to show off her ring again. That evening, she wore her new rock to a special screening of her movie Challengers at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

The event was her first since the news she’s set to wed Holland was confirmed to PEOPLE by a family source.

But it might be a while before the fan-favorite couple exchanges wedding rings. Zendaya and Holland plan to take their time until they tie the knot.

“They will just enjoy things for now and won’t rush a wedding,” an insider told PEOPLE. “They are both busy with work projects.”
