A woman says she’s been shunned by her social group after laughing at the name her friend chose for her baby.
In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous woman writes that her best friend “K” has recently been sharing potential baby names ahead of her upcoming delivery.
“We’ve been talking about baby names for weeks, just throwing out ideas for fun,” the woman writes in the post. “She even joked about some really insane names, and we laughed about how some people pick the most cringe stuff. So I thought we were on the same page about what was reasonable…..”
But a few days ago, “K” said she had finally picked a name.
“And it’s something straight out of Genshin Impact or Skyrim,” she adds, referencing two fantasy video games.
While the woman doesn’t ultimately give the name her friend chose, out of privacy concerns, she writes that it was something along the lines of “Zephyr Rocket or Banjo Fox.”
“I honestly thought she was messing with me, so I laughed. Not like a mean laugh, just a genuine reaction like… wait.. shut up, what is the real name?” she adds.
The post continues: “But nope. That was the real name. She got super quiet and was like.. that is the name. I could tell immediately I messed up, so I tried to backpedal, but she looked kinda hurt and changed the subject. Later, a mutual friend told me she was upset and thought I was being rude.”
Now the poster has been shunned by her larger friend group, writing that she recently learned she wasn’t invited to a group function.
“Literally everyone else was there. I found out after the fact, and its hard not to feel like its bc of the baby name thing,” she adds.
She continues: “I really didn’t mean to be rude, I just genuinely thought she was joking based on our past convos.”

Other Reddit users are weighing in, with many saying the woman was allowed to criticize an odd baby name.
“You would be a good friend if you shared your opinion (in love) on such a horrible name. She may not be your friend after that, but maybe you will have saved another human from a lifetime of bullying,” wrote one.
Added another: “People forget that one day their children will become adults, and that these names don’t stay cute into adulthood.”
