Woman Refuses to Redo Sister’s Wedding Cake When It Falls Apart Days Before Her Ceremony

  • In a post on Reddit, a 19-year-old woman explained that she bakes as a hobby.
  • She said her sister asked her to make her wedding cake to save money. She agreed, but then a last-minute disaster caused the top tier to collapse
  • The bride demanded she remake the entire three-tier cake the day before the wedding, even though it meant missing work and a college exam

A bride-to-be isn’t so happy with her sister, and now their whole family is divided over a wedding cake disaster.

In a post on Reddit, a 19-year-old woman explained that she bakes as a hobby. “I’m not a professional,” she wrote, “but people say my stuff looks good, and I’ve made birthday cakes for my family before.”

So when her older sister, 27, asked her to make her wedding cake “to save money and keep it in the family,” she hesitated. She told her sister she wasn’t comfortable with something so high-pressure, but her sister insisted the cake would be “simple” and “rustic.” Eventually, she agreed. “Mistake #1,” she admitted.

Everything fell apart the day before the wedding.

After spending two full days baking, she finished the three-tier cake, stacked it and moved it into the refrigerator. But while shifting it to a different shelf, disaster struck.

“The ENTIRE top tier slid off and smeared down the side like a frosted avalanche,” she wrote. She tried to rescue it, but “the more I touched it, the worse it looked. It ended up looking like a toddler punched it repeatedly.”

She immediately called her sister to apologize — but her sister “freaked out,” accusing her of sabotaging the wedding, “never taking things seriously,” and demanded that she remake the entire cake that same day.

But remaking it would mean missing work and skipping a college exam, the teen explained. “I told her I simply don’t have the time or ability to redo it on such short notice.” She even offered to pay for a professional bakery’s rush order, but her sister refused, saying “that wasn’t the point” and accusing her of “abandoning her.”

Now, the family is split. Their mom believes she should “suck it up” and redo the cake because “it’s family.” Their dad says her sister pressured her into something she wasn’t ready for. Her sister also isn’t speaking to her at all.

Since posting, people have chimed in to share their thoughts on the situation. Some people also offered suggestions on how she can handle the situation moving forward.

“You offered to make it right in a way that would work out for everyone and still allow you to take your exam and get paid for your actual job. So no, you’re NTB,” one user commented.

“Buy a cake and tell her you made it,” another person wrote.

Someone else replied, “You’ve done your sisterly part for the wedding. Now, sit back and watch your sister have her drama filled wedding and reception. When she is whining about her cake going missing, all you can say is, ‘I tried to assist you with your cake but you said no.’ ”
