A woman is standing her ground and refusing to give her beloved pet dog back to her ex-boyfriend following the end of their relationship.
In a post on Reddit’s “Am I the A——” forum, the woman wrote that her ex gifted her the animal as a birthday present when the dog was a puppy.
Recently, the pair split after the woman said her ex cheated on her, which prompted her to move out and take the dog with her.
“He never walks him or feeds him. I payed [sic] for all of the shots /medical bills. Yet he insists on plastering my name all over social media saying that I ‘stole his dog,’ ” the Redditor detailed, adding that her ex “says he will break in and take him if I don’t give him back.”
“This dog means the world to me,” she also wrote.

The woman next detailed in her Reddit post that her canine has “brain damage” from when “his mother accidentally stepped on him right after he was born.”
“He can run and play and listen to simple commands … but he constantly thinks he’s dehydrated,” she wrote.

The pup “cannot be left alone outside or he will drink every puddle til it’s dry and eat the mud,” the woman explained, “I found out because I got him an automatically refilling water bowl and he drank so much that night that he had a seizure and essentially almost drowned himself.”
“He needs constant care and I do not believe my ex would give that to him if we did share ‘custody,’ ” she added.
In the comments section of the post, many sided with the woman, explaining that the dog was given to her and therefore is rightfully hers.
“As you said, dog was a gift to you. It’s your dog. You have also paid for all medical expenses such as vet bills and care,” one user wrote, before imploring the woman to “collect all the evidence in case this turns into a legal matter.”
“The dog was a gift to you. It’s your dog. If he breaks into your apartment and steals the dog, have him arrested. This guy is a real POS,” another Reddit user said. “Hasn’t he done enough to you buy [sic] betraying you and cheating on you. Now, he wants to steal your dog. The dude is a punk.”
One other commenter sided with the woman as well, stating, “You’re definitely not in the wrong here.”
“Trust your instincts — your priority should be what’s best for the dog, and it sounds like you’re giving him the care he truly needs,” they added.
