Woman Kicks Sister Out of Her House for Trying to ‘Reparent’ Her Daughter, Insists the Tween ‘Needs More Structure’

Everyone has their own approach to parenting, and when different methods clash within a family, it can lead to turmoil.

On Reddit, a 31-year-old shared that she recently had to kick her 29-year-old sister out of her house for trying to “reparent” her 12-year-old daughter.

The poster explained that she and her daughter finally have a house of their own after “years of chaos.” While “life hasn’t been easy,” she has full custody of the tween and their bond is “solid.”

However, recently, their living arrangements shifted after her younger sister asked to come stay with them.

“My sister (29F) has always had this weird superiority complex.. She thinks she’s everyone’s life coach even though… the girl can’t keep a plant alive!” the woman wrote. “Anyway, she asked to stay with me for a few days because she ‘needed space’ from her boyfriend.”

However, from the second she walked in, she “acted like she owned the place.”

“Critiquing everything.. my cooking, my decor, why my daughter’s shoes weren’t lined up with military precision.. I bit my tongue because I was trying to be nice,” she wrote. “But then she crossed the line…One morning I come out of my room and she’s in MY kitchen telling MY daughter she needs more ‘structure’ and that she’d ‘do better living with someone who sets proper boundaries.’ ”

She then overheard her younger sister “listing all the things she thinks I’m doing ‘wrong.’ ”

She noted that her daughter “looked so uncomfortable,” and when the poster finally stepped in, her sister “rolled her eyes and said, ‘Well, someone has to parent her properly.’ ”

In that moment, the woman “saw red.” She told her sister she had 10 minutes to pack up her things and get out.

Her sister dared to act “shocked,” insisting the poster was being “dramatic” and “proving her point.”

“Now she’s telling the whole family I ‘kicked her out for trying to help’ and that I’m ‘too unstable to take criticism,'” she wrote.

While a few family members are “taking her side because they think she’s the ‘responsible one,'” the woman’s daughter said she was glad she “stuck up for us.”

So, the mom turned to Reddit to ask if she did the right thing by kicking her sister out — and most people agreed with her decision.

“You know what you’re doing. Your sis is underhanded and overstepped. Well done mama,” one person commented. 

“When your daughter looked uncomfortable, you correctly recognized that your sister’s behavior was damaging. Your first priority is your daughter’s safety and comfort,” another person wrote.
